White over the Peak: snow scenes from Eaves Knoll, New Mills

Go for a walk in the snow without getting cold in 37 photos from a white-over Eaves Knoll, giving 360-views of our frozen Peak District hills.

Snow has thoroughly stopped play for many of us on two wheels across the Peak. The surprise encore of snowfall on Monday night fell heavy and froze hard, layering the hills with a stunning all-over white extending over the Derbyshire, Cheshire East and Greater Manchester borders of the western Peak.

Having first considered scaling Kinder Downfall, or abandoning a car at Goyt Valley, I then settled instead on an hour-or-so’s lunchtime walk up one of the nearest good hills, and it was spectacular enough. Here’s how our land looked.

The snow has frozen unusually solid all week, not even the bright sunshine on Friday making for much of a melt. I headed out again then, so look out for a Part 2 soon.

If you enjoyed seeing the above, please do copy and share the link with family or friends; Peaks & Puddles could really do with a few new visitors to get things going for 2025!

In the year ahead I’d like to do this more; just posting a few photos or stories from a memorable walk or ride. Giving these little adventures somewhere to live that’s not the latest dying social network but a place all our own.
